Nov. 9, "General Orchid Culture" -- for new members, we'll cover the basics, and this will be a refresher for
everyone who's been growing orchids for a while.
Dec. 7, “Orchids for the Holidays” — A field trip to R.F. Orchids, with a box lunch on the private terrace and a
special class on orchid arrangements for the holidays. This is also the weekend of R.F. Orchids’ annual
holiday open house and sale, so members can also shop if they like and get some great bargains. Members
may bring containers and blooming orchids from home, or purchase containers and/or blooming orchids, and
we’ll help put everything together into beautiful arrangements to take home or give away as gifts.
Jan. 11, a program about the 19th World Orchid Conference, and exhibiting orchids at the conference and other
shows. World Orchid Conferences are held once every three years somewhere around the world, and this is
the first time the WOC has been in the US in more than 20 years. It promises to be the largest gathering of
orchid lovers, with the most spectacular orchid show, since the 11th WOC in 1984.
Feb. 8, "Orchids in the Landscape" – How to incorporate exotic orchids in your tropical garden. Topics will
include naturalizing orchids in the trees, as well as large orchid plants in garden containers.
Mar. 14, "The Orchid Doctor" – Bring in your problem orchids for diagnosis and discussion. Common problems
and remedies will be covered, including pests and diseases, cultural pointers, and encouraging the plants to
bloom.
Apr. 11, "Repotting and Mounting Orchids" – It’s potting time! This month we'll review the basics of repotting,
mounting and so on (bring gloves or schedule your manicure for Saturday... this is hands-on!).
We'll also discuss preparing your orchids for their summer vacation without you.
