This Club focuses on exploring and learning about the fascinating orchid flower. Orchids, like people come
in many different shapes, sizes, even personalities! There are approximately two hundred and fifty native
orchids grown in the United States, and roughly 50% are native to Florida.
All you need to join is a love for Orchids!
Friday, November 11: Welcome Back Meeting
Discuss how your orchids fared over the summer, and how to get them back in shape!
Friday, December 9: Holiday Floral Arrangements
Meeting at RF Orchids for a how-to on holiday floral arrangements and lunch, bring your favorite container
or purchase a new one at special pricing. This is also the weekend of the East Everglades Orchid Society’
s show in the gardens, and RF Orchids fall sale, so there will be plenty of opportunities to purchase new
plants.
Friday, January 20: Dr. Paul Wetter Presentation
Dr. Paul Wetter will return for a presentation on his favorite orchids. A favorite from last season, Dr. Wetter
is entertaining as well as knowledgeable, and always more than happy to answer any questions after the
presentation.
Friday, February 10: Field Trip to the home of Jay Rourke
Join us on a special trip to the home and garden of Jay Rourke, a fellow orchid enthusiast. When Jay
purchased his home 12 years ago, there was nothing on the land, after collecting and planting 4 years
prior to building he began what is now a tropical paradise! Infused with tropical fruit and palm tree, gingers,
heliconias, bromeliads, frangipani, oolite and limestone rocks and of course, orchids, make up this
impressive home garden space.
March: Orchid shows in Naples and Key West offer a chance for another field trip, We will be discussing
the possibilities at our earlier meetings.
Friday, April 13: Preparing for Summer
Bob Fuchs will present a program on Fabulous Vanaceous Intergenerics, all about the many stunning
vanda- relatives that are available. We will also discuss preparing your orchids for summer time.
