2011-2012 TOURS and TRIPS
|
This season our trips will not only be fun, but functional! Combining educational tours, shopping opportunities and of course
entertainment, we will truly explore more of what South Florida has to offer. In December we will head to the Festival
Flea Market, where you can see and purchase one of kind holiday gifts and delicious treats from over 500 vendors.
In January, we will head to Teena’s Farm in Homestead. The Ocean Reef Club obtains a majority of its tomatoes as
well as other produce from this local farm, join us in exploring where the food you eat (at your favorite Ocean Reef restaurants
of course) comes from! For February we have brought back the highly popular Miami Boat tour with Dr. Paul George, with the
highlight of the tour being the famous Stiltsville homes in Key Biscayne. In March, join us at The Las Olas Art Show, where you
will not only view over 100 different artists, but meet them as well! Celebrating its 24th year, this art fair is not one to be missed.
The grand finale of our season will end with the award-winning show Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
This international musical sensation by Andrew Lloyd Webber, as well as dinner at a fabulous Coral Gables eatery will be
the cherry-topper to another fantastic season of Art League trips!
Other ideas, still under consideration are visits to the Wynwood Art District, the Morikami Gardens, and the New World
Symphony. Any ideas for future trips by you the members are greatly appreciated.
We hope that you can join us for some or all of our off the “Reef” adventures.

was the only female farmer. Teena is a graduate of the Wedgworth Leadership Institute for Agriculture and Natural
Resources. She is a charter member of the Florida Ag Promotional Campaign and a past President of the Dade County
Farm Bureau. She serves on the board of directors of the Florida Tomato Committee, Florida Fruit & Vegetable
Association and the Everglades Community Association. Teena was named Florida’s Woman of the Year in Agriculture in 2004

STILTSVILLE BOAT TOUR
WITH DR. PAUL GEORGE
Wednesday, February 8
Depart the Art League at 8:30 a.m.
Return by 3:30 p.m.
Fee: $100, lunch provided
Following the spectacular success of our Miami River Boat trip, we have arranged another tour with Dr. George to experience
this unique piece of Miami History.
Throughout the tour, Dr. Paul George delights passengers with tons of historical facts about Key Biscayne and the surrounding
areas. His wealth of knowledge is evident and his enthusiasm is contiguous. You will enjoy stories about Mary Brickell, Henry
Flagler and other Miami pioneers. You will learn about the homes once owned by President Nixon, Sylvester Stallone and other
famous celebrities. The highlight of this tour is Stiltsville, a group of homes built on stilts in the middle of Key Biscayne National
park. These homes have a wild history which include gambling and intense partying during prohibition. At its peak during the
50s and 60s, Stiltsville had up to twenty-seven houses; nowadays, only 7 remain. The boat takes you up-close to the houses, great
for taking photos, as souvenirs of this certainly doomed residential neighborhood.
