Parrot Jungle, March 3, 2008
After its opening in 1936, Parrot Jungle Gardens quickly became a Florida classic attraction. Originally it featured a flock of
deep-pink Greater Flamingos (which in the 1980’s appeared in the opening credits of the hit TV series “Miami Vice”) and a
Parrot Circus, where the birds would pull chariots and fly a rocket to the moon! The star of that show was Pinky, a
cockatoo, who rode a tiny bicycle along a high wire. She became such an icon that she was featured on the cover of the
first Roadside America book.
By the turn of the millennium and with the help of Hurricane Andrew, Parrot Jungle sold its property and moved to Watson
Island in Biscayne Bay, just offshore from Miami.
Since this move, Parrot Jungle has become a mega-attraction; with over 1000 parrots. There is a Bird Walk, where colorful
macaws and parrots perch out in the open, for passers-by to feed. There is a parrot posing zone, where visitors can have
a classic photo taken of many parrots clinging to their arms and heads!
The slick "Winged Wonders" show in the Parrot Bowl, features 6 foot tall six-foot-tall cassowaries, and condors making
dramatic airborne entrances! Oh….and be sure not to miss Nicky, Pinky's successor! Pinky is now 80 years old and still
lives at Parrot Jungle. Bring your cameras and enjoy a beautiful day with all of the Winged Wonders!
Depart the Art League at 8:30 AM Lunch included.
Fee: $65
Spamalot- Saturday, March 8, 2008
Lovingly ripped off from the classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail, SPAMALOT is a new musical directed by
Mike Nichols, with a book by Eric Idle and an entirely new score created by Eric Idle and John Du Prez. Telling the
legendary tale of King Arthur and his knights of the Round Table, and featuring a bevy of beautiful show girls, not to
mention cows, killer rabbits and French people, Monty Python's SPAMLOT "raises silliness to an art form" (The Sunday
Times) and has been hailed as "a no-holds-barred smash hit."(The New Yorker).
Bus will depart the Art League at 12:00. Snacks and Dinner included.
Fee: $150
